Kristi, have you looked online for support groups, either in your community or in an online community, for moms who's children are in the military? I would imagine there are many and they can not only offer you details of what to expect but also put your mind at ease some about any hesitations you have. Finding the best source for information and support can also free up some of your time to spend with him and learn from him what he expects in the coming months. You should be proud though. The more he knows you are support his decision the more likely he will communicate with you often while he is gone. My son just moved to the East Coast from the Midwest last week and although I was against his reasons, his lack of planning and money, and how he was going to get buy the first few weeks I still tried my hardest to support him. So far he has remained open with me about all of the problems he is facing even though I told them they would happen. So making sure I supported him and didn't harass him (his words) too much may have just made it easier on both of us. Our situations are so different but I thought my recent experience would help some. The military can be a very rewarding experience for some young men and women and turn them into much stronger and more hardworking adults. Be proud, Mom. ♥ and luck to you.
