My son is 14 mo. Old and hates the sippy cup. He will drink an oz or two but that's all I can get him to drink. He just throws the sippy cup & will eventually ask for his Ba-ba. I have been working on this for probably 4-5 mo. now & have tried 5 different cups. He was also fussy like this when we converted him from breast to bottle. He is a little small for his age so I need to make sure he is drinking enough milk for both the calories & the fluid intake. Help! Any advice will be appreciated. He is also a fussy eater.

I tried the nuby with a straw. H didn't know what to do with it. Haven't tried a cup with a straw. I will have to try that. Makes me a little nervous because he likes to throw his cup a lot! I'm making him sound like a bad boy, but he usually is a really good boy... just has really finicky eater since the day he was born!

My worry because he is a fussy eater &doesn't always eat very much is that he won't get enough calories. I have tried the going all day with just sippy & he will only drink about 3 oz, instead of 12oz if he was drinking in a bottle. How much is the normal amount for fluid intake at this stage? I can't afford for him to lose any weight. I was still giving a full bottle in the morning & at night, so this means he usually is drinking about 26 oz a day. I wanted to gradually faze him in.

Have you tried giving him a cup with a straw? I would give it a try..just a cup with a normal plastic straw.

So you started to train him to the cup about 10 months of age. Most little ones are not yet ready to go to a cup until about a year or older. You are going to just have to keep on working at it and do not give in when he asks for the bottle. Toss them. He will eventually get thirsty enough he will use the sippy cup.
