Sippy cup woes

[deleted account] ( 4 moms have responded )

My 14 month old refuses to use a sippy cup consistently. She will take some juice or water but no cows milk. I know she is supposed to be off the bottle by 1 yo but she just won't drink if she doesn't have her bottle and that scares me. I've tried every kind of cup-from straws to soft spout to hard spout to bottle like ones. Nothing is taking and I'm almost embarrassed that she's this old and still on a bottle Short of going cold turkey and being cruel to her in my mind-what else can I do?

I wouldn't push it. My 21mo still has a bottle. There isn't a set age when they should be off them so to save the battles let it go. She'll stop when she's ready.

My 1st (now 10yo) had a bottle at night till he was 3. My 2nd (now 8yo) stopped at 14 months. Each child is different.

She is old enough to drink from a regular cup so why not skip the sippy cup all together and go right to a regular one.

Although if you truly want her off the bottle it seems that you are going to have to stick to your guns and go cold turkey. She is manipulating you into getting what she wants and you are letting her. In my honest opinion that isn't a great trend to start.

I will try the real cup. I think she can do it but probably not that well. Haha! It's just nice to hand my other child-4 yo- a drink while he's playing or reading an not have to worry about spilling.

Try going to a real cup. Some kids have the motor control to do it and are really motivated by the "do it like mommy" factor.
