Sleep Issues for my 1 month old

When I put my 1 month old for his naps during the day he will generally wake up as soon as I put him down or he will startle himself about 15-20 minutes after I put him down and from there I can only get him back to sleep if I am holding him. He will sleep for hours in my arms. I try putting him down in different areas; swing, mat, napper, crib, couch...At night time when we lay him down he will sleep until he wakes up hungry. I am very fortunate it's not the opposite, sleeping well during the day and not at night, but I want him to be able to console himself. Any advice?

If he will take his paci that does work, but the majority of the time he wants nothing to do with a paci :(

I breastfeed my son completely, but I use a pacifier to help him console himself. For the most part during the day, this works, unfortunately my son has his days and nights confused, so at night I have the same problem as you do. The pacifier doesn't work at all during the night and my son wants me to hold him continuously even after he has a full tummy of breast milk. My son is 3 weeks old.
