I have a 2.5 year old and a 4 year old and although they often sleep through the night, they have nights where they don't.

For your daughter it could be a number of reasons as to why she is waking up alot. It could be separation anxiety, although I found with my boys separation anxiety started much earlier than 20 months. It could be teething or maybe she is thirsty or hungry.

Have you checked her mouth? They get 2 year old molars which I have heard are the worst.

It could be lots of things: growth spurt, separation anxiety, dreams, etc. My daughter just turned 3 and we are going through the same type of thing. She sleeps really well for awhile, then out of the blue, she's waking up at night again. I think our current cause is going to the potty..... Hang in there! Just when you think you've got her figured out, she'll change again :-)
