Smacked by your 6 year old?

Hi, I have an almost 6 year old special needs little boy who has this tendancie to "Full on smack you across the face", when he's told no or you take something away from him. I've tried removing him from the situation, trying to calm him down by talking to him to distract him, but no matter what he always feels the need to hit someone. How else can this be dealt with? Is this just how special needs children express themselves? He doesnt yell and hes just learning how to give his opinion. Any advice would be nice

Have you had your child tested and given therapy or other sorts of help? How well is he communicating his needs to you or voicing his opinions? IF he has no real vocabulary due to speech delay, then his smacking you might be his way of getting things said. I am not an expert but this sounds like a child's means of communication.

I'm not an expert but why don't you try to catch his hand before he hits, caress him while telling him he's hurting you? I don't know...
