Sneaky Teenager

The oldest teenager is so defiant right now. He doesn't want to listen, doesn't seem to respect authority at school and we seem to be on a roll-a-coaster of good vs bad behavior. His constant lying and trying to get away with things is wearing on me and I'm about ready to give up on him, though I know that is not the answer. How do you deal with teenaged boys?!

Well I have been through this twice before! You have to stand firm with young men and pick your fights carefully. It is a hard world out there for our teenagers these days. At mid teen they are not seen as children or men and they find it hard to find a place in the world. Everything makes them angry and normally the only emotion they can express is anger.

Make sure he understands the ground rules and complies to that. Let the little lies go and just jump on the big ones. Know when to approach him to get things done and pick your moments to chastise him carefully. Although they dont realise it they need mum more than ever. Give him a hug and tell him you love him. He will be shocked but it might just be enough to jolt him back into being a nice young man and not an angry troll!

All I can say is they do come out of these dark times nice young men. Dont give up on him, he loves you he is just a little lost in the land of hormones.
