So am planning to move to Australia with my now husband, we currently live in Illinois and I am needing to obtain passports for my two young children. The thing I am worried about is that you need both parents signatures and I have not seen nor heard from their father in over two years. I was never married to their father and does not have visitation nor have we been to court for custody. He does not pay child support nor is there a child support order. The question I have is what steps do I need to do to prove that the children have been in my custody and that there father has abandoned them?

Go to the passport website and find the section for getting passports for children under 16. There is a form you can download and print that you fill out saying exactly what you said above and they will accept that instead of the father's signature. :) If you have problems finding the form let me know via a PM (personal message) on here and I can email it to you - I have it saved on my computer. :)
