My daughter is 9 and has just received the official diagnosis of Tourette's (although she has been suffering from tics for 3 years). She has complex motor tics (Facial contortion, wrist snapping, head jerking) and simple vocal tics (barking, sniffing, throat clearing). I have asked around but I can't find an answer to my question: Can someone with Tourette's control how LOUD their tics are. My daughter's barking can become screamingly loud and I have a hard time ignoring it. I have noise anxiety (How's that for a bad mix?!) and when she reaches a certain volume it gives me panic attacks, but I don't want to yell at her if she can't control it. Can anyone help?
