How do you know your baby is 8 pounds? When I had gone to an ultrasound the day before I had my daughter, they told me she was going to weigh about 7 or 8 pounds and she came out weighing 5 pounds 8 ounces. You aren't going to know how much your baby is going to weigh until he gets here.
Another question: how far along are you? I say wait until he is ready to get here. That would be the best thing for him.

You COULD just wait until baby is ready to come. Some are super stubborn and will not budge until they're good and ready.
A membrane sweep can help and it's what my midwife suggested if I really wanted to get things moving (I was about 40 weeks and convinced I wasn't going to make my due date (Jan 24), I thought 20th, but was willing to wait the few extra days. Baby ended up being born on the 22nd)
There are a number of different things that you can do that supposedly help to induce labor, but in reality, baby will come when it's ready.
Here are some suggestions that are supposed to help
Evening Primrose Oil (you can take them in capsules or, apparently you can run the oil directly onto your cervix in the last few weeks) It helps to thin the cervix and prepare for labor
Acupuncture and acupressure
Massage (get a professional who knows what they're doing :P)
Raspberry leaf tea (can also be taken in capsule form)
Black or Blue cohosh (this one CAN come with some problems so talk to a Dr or midwife before you think about trying it)
And here's a website with 40 different methods to attempt to induce labor (some are repeats of what I've already written)
Good luck :)
