My daughter is 17 years old, her LMP was 12-3-14 we know FORSURE. She went for her first sonogram today she should've been 8.2 weeks but according to size of baby & gestational sac, she's 5.5 weeks, even though baby is very early the sono did show the heart flickering, but it's to early to hear or measure the heart pattern they said, she did find a implantation bleed close to the gestational sac, but said this is common and she at no more risk of miscarring than anybody else at this early stage, I understand with history of irregular periods it's possible to ovulate "late" or even twice in same month & this would explain her not being as far along as thought, but I'm puzzled as to how in the world she tested postive for pregnancy on several home pregnancy tests starting January 6 if she's only 5.5 weeks pregnant today??

Even at 5.5 weeks she could be getting pos. Pregnancy tests at Jan. 6. Also ultrasounds are just guesses on due dates. You could have 10 ultrasounds and get 10 different due dates all with the same pregnancy.

Having an ultrasound so early isn't very accurate. Once the baby is a bit bigger they get better but can still be out.
