My son called his dad mum once and we both laughed now he does it all the time. Dad is getting sad he won't say it now. We know we should have not laughed but it was too funny and now we make sure we are serious when we try to get him to say dad. Any suggestions or experience in this?

The novelty of calling his dad mom will wear off. He might get a kick out of it but once he sees no reaction from you guys he will move on to something more amusing. Don't be upset by it bc it's honestly not a huge deal. It's not your fault either. How could you have known a simple laugh would make him keep repeating himself. My 16 month old will call me or my husband " mamma dada mamma" when she is very excited and we laugh but it hadn't caused her to do it consistently. Don't make him feel like he's "bad" though for doing this. He saw the mistake made you laugh and is just trying to put a grin on your faces!

I mean completely ignore him, don't even tell him to say Dad. Dad may even have to walk out of the room to get the message across.

Ignore it completely. He will soon learn that Dad won't acknowledge him if he calls Dad Mum and will get it right.
