My son is leaving in 2 weeks for boot camp. I want to go see him off at the airport and he said no, he didn't want anyone there. I'm hurt but trying to understand. He won't talk to me about anything lately, however I have so many questions to ask him. I have no experience with anyone going into the army, so you can imagine the anxiety I have!

PS: Angela, I forgot to mention this: THANK YOU for your son's service!

Sarah, some are like that. Once they hit adulthood, they don't want their folks hovering...

RB is one of those.

I get it with the not wanting to talk or answer questions, but to not want your parents to even drop you off at the airport? Maybe he just feels it is his time to step away as an adult.

From a mother of kids who are considering the military: It is entirely possible that you are making him MORE nervous about things.

I know you have questions, queries, and you're curious. You want to make sure he's going to be OK. Not having the answers to give you can be hard on your kids.

You are positive that he is actually going to boot camp? Unless he is very nervous about containing his own emotions, I find it a bit odd he would not want you there. My son went off to college and was very nervous and definitely did not want to travel there by himself.

How close are you to your son? Has something been said or done that makes him not want to talk to you?

Usually when someone goes off to boot camp and to be in the service, they want their family around them as much as possible. So I do not know how to answer this.
