Large size welts on his body--larger one on his legs. He has no fever and doesn't seem to be in pain. He is up to date on his shots (none in the last few months). Yesterday, we went to a fall festival. He ate some sweet breads. Is it allergies to what he ate after several hours, or likely something else?

You are welcome. I had an allergy reaction to meds that were also antibiotics and did not know that I was allergic. Sulfer based drugs cause major reactions in my mother so I knew that was possible in me. I had almost finished my round of antibiotics and then it came out in hives on my arms. I had to quit the meds. So, sounds like you do have it under control. Good Luck!

There is no telling what it could be. I would go back and retrace his eating habits for the last 24 to 48 hours and see what is different as well as what other things he was exposed to during that time be it a different area from where you live or other things like places you have gone and never been to before. They sound like hives to me and could be triggered by anything. Call his doctor in the morning and see what the doctor says. If he is not too young and you can give him something like Benedryl by directions I would do that because it helps with allergies of all sorts. But I definitely would check with his doctor. Since you see no other symptoms such as fever and pain and he is acting like himself, just watch him. If for any reason you feel he is not doing well or acting like himself, take him to the ER.

Thanks, Evelyn. I have been trying to do research over the Internet while cleaning his messes and my little girls'. I just ducked into another room to switch out the laundry for a few minutes, and came back to a "kidtastrophe" (playing upon the word catastrophe). He had taken the yogurt I had given him and wiped it everywhere. Then if that wasn't enough, apparently spit it all over the place--landing on my I-pad and the painting I was working on! So, yes, he is his old ornery self! I did research on the internet and it does look like hives, or Uticaria. I found a ziploc bag that I had intended for my husband tucked away in between the cushions partially eaten. It had contained a slice of banana bread that I had gotten from the fall festival yesterday. I am still trying to find out the ingredients, so it could be a food allergy. Food allergies are more common in families like mine with a history of allergies and skin problems like excema. Also, he had some delayed reaction last year to a round of antibiotics. I think it is called erythema multiform, or hive reaction all over the body. I did give him a dose of Benadryl at 2.5mg (at 39 lbs. but he is only 3 1/2) and I saw some improvement in the size of the hives, significantly reduced in size. I need to check the dosage amount to see if I can safely increase it. Thanks for responding to my inquiry! I will post more if his condition changes suddenly, or gets worse, or if I have any new helpful information to share.
