I have always said that when I had children I would try to go as natural and eco-friendly as I could. I have decided to go with cloth diapers to reflect this wish and I am getting a lot of negativity from the people around me not to mention that I am getting very discouraged trying to choose which diapers to buy...

I obviously have little support to use cloth diapers from the people around me so I am reaching out to hopefully be encouraged from others...

3 criteria..... I am looking for a TRIM diaper with flushable inserts at a good price....Should I buy a bunch of trial packs from different companies?? If so which ones are the trimmest that you know of that can use flushable inserts??

I really appreciate your suggestions

p.s.
Do you find that cloth diapers have a different smell than throw away?? I have been around babies that have CD and some seem to have a very distinct smell to them... :S

I found a place that has information sessions on CDs I think I am going to go so I can actually see the different options.

I used mostly the three fold ones and they are a bit more bulky but that allows for more absorbion too. Its about as bulky as the disposables really when a disposable gets bunched up around the baby. Back when my kids were born and little (24 and 17 now), we did not have the all on one version as yet. So we had to use the three fold or get the full cloth diaper and fold that up. But the little covers that I described as being the shape of a disposable diaper had just come out when my daughter was a baby. They worked very well. I had to actually take three fold diapers for my son and sew two together because he was so big that disposables did not fit him.

Evelyn,
Thank you for responding. This reassures me :) It is something I feel very strongly about but I am finding hard having very little support in the decision.

Have you used all in one diapers or another type than three fold?? I was under the impression that the three fold ones are the bulkiest ones..

I will start with your last question about smells of cloth diapers...I never noted that at all. As for your wishes to use cloth vs disposable diapers; I commend you on your choice and TO HECK with what others are saying to you. Why? 1) You are working to save throwing away more of the disposable diapers. 2) Cloth diapers are more breathable than the plastic disposable ones meaning less harsh rashes on bottoms or none at all. 3) You wash the diapers rather than toss them away. 4) They can be reused on the other kids as they come until they get thread bare. 5) Cloth diapers also make great burp rags, cleaning rags etc.
I used Gerber three fold diapers and there was an insert you could buy to use inside that was toss away. There are these cute covers now you can get anywhere that look like a disposable diaper with velcro closers and you fold the tri-fold diaper up and place in center of the cover and the the insert and put it on baby as you would a disposable diaper. All things wash but for inserts. Its easy and quick to change and trim. But there are other companies online that have diaper covers, inserts and cloth diapers. They are basically the same thing, just some cost more than others. For just cloth diapers you can buy them at Walmart, Target, K-mart, and some baby stores.

CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!

I hope this helped.
