I wouldnt spank,i would rather dicipline with consequences depending on the childrens age. My son is 3 1/2 and if he missbehaves he must go to his room and stay in there for 5 min or if he fights over a toy i tell him once to stop,if he doesnt, i take the toy away. It works very well,he has been in his room once lol..since then i tell him when he is naughty that if he doesnt stop he can go into is room..he stops quickly then!

I find that consequences are better than spanking. Letting the children know they will lose something if they don't do what they are told is more effective. You need to follow through though so they know you're serious.
You haven't said how old your children are.

I am not sure if you can get this book in England, but if you can't I would look on Amazon and see if you can order it. The book is called "The Connected Child" By Karyn Purvis. This would be a good book for both you and your husband to read. It will give you GREAT insight on both your discipline methods, why you choose what you choose, and what outcomes those lead to. Discipline should be something that you both work on together and agree on. If it is a "he thinks" "she thinks" then in the long run you do more damage. The book does not state to use one form of discipline over another instead it looks more deeper and gives you more insight into discipline and raise your child and how you were raised, it gives you tools as to how to decide how to discipline and then you and your husband take it from there.
