Anthony, is my 10-year old son that has been diagnosed with Asperger's or you can even call it high functioning autism along with ADHD, anxiety and OCD. Public school was not willing to help Anthony although we hired a special education lawyer and after six hours of testing from a clinical phycologist still out school district denied him the extra help he needed!!! Anthony has also been bullied and generally is a rather shy child that can receive negative attention. We pulled him out of the public school and we put him in a private Lutheran school. During his second year there and him being in third grade, he struggled a lot with math, reading especially! I was telling the teacher, the counselor that Anthony is very smart but struggling! The extra help was ok but whenever he was coming home he was overwhelmed and unfortunately burnt out so homework was a big issue! It would take us hours to complete homework with plenty of breaks. The thing is that should I look for a special education school because Anthony among other things he also has learning disability, he learns differently. He straggled a lot last year as a result his anxiety hit the roof! What is your opinion in that? Thank you

I'm glad for you Katia and especially for your son. I am a mother and I work with children and I know it's hard sometimes to look for the right help because it's just not given properly. I'm sure even though it means another change now it will have a positive impact in your child's life forever. Good lck!!

Thank you Mary!
We live in Orange County in Southern California and yes there is a school for children with dyslexia, other learning disabilities, dysgraphia etc. I sent in Anthony's medical records and they allowed him to spend 3 days with them. They said he fits their criteria! It is kind of hard for him to keep changing environment (and I feel bad that I did that to my son and very angry at myself since I consider myself very detailed when it comes to my children). I want what's best for him! Thank you, I appreciate your response. Support means a lot to me.

I don't know where you live but here in Florida, at least miami, there are schools that function to give children with special needs the help they need. Placing your child in a private school is not going to help because the only difference is since you are paying for it they will restrain to be truly open about your child school development as if he were in public school. Look in your area or even in the place where he was tested for special programs for special children. Private school is not the answer and you may end up hurting your child rather than helping him
