My son had 16 ear infections before doctors finally agreed to put tubes in his ears. he suffered hearing loss before tubes and since hes had them he seems to be hearing much better. he still isnt talking though and thats what is worrying me. he had the tubes put in at 23 months and is now 32 months... has anyone else had this problem?

I am a speech and language pathologist and would recommend that you speak to your pediatrician and request a hearing evaluation and speech/language evaluation right away. By 24 months we want a child to be using at least 50 single words and starting to put 2 words together. By 36 months they should be using simple sentences. See if your insurance will cover it. If they will not, contact early intervention (serving 0-36 months) where you live and contact they school district they can provide services once your child is 36 months but can probably start an assessment now since he is close to that age.

You can also take a look at http://www.littletalkers.com a free parent resource I created to help parent promote speech and language skills. You can watch videos on the best ways to talk and interact to help with language and tips on how to help with speech sounds. I hope it can get you started with some ideas while you are in the evaluation process. You can also view speech and language milestones.

My daughter had similar issues. Get him to an audiologist, If he needs hearing aids, it's better to know earlier. I'd recommend that you teach him and learn to sign. It may not be necessary, but when I was non verbal, I would sign because my sister is deaf, so I had access to the information. I'd see her sign a word, sign it to another sister, she'd tell me what it meant.
I'm not saying it's no big deal, when it's your kid, it's a big deal, but you'll do fine either way
