Ok so my oldest daughter started prep at the start of this year and since she has started she has been bringing home little problems that she has learnt from the other kids in her class. (I knew it was going to happen cause kids learn from each other) One of these problems includes spitting. I don't like it when children spit (poke their tounge out and spit), so I warned her if she kept doing it I would wash her mouth out with soap. after a couple of days of her doing it and my telling her not too I finally fulfiiled my threat and put a bar of soap in her mouth. Since then she hasn't done it which is great it means it worked but now my 15 almost 16 month old has started doing it. What should I do to stop her. I can't do what I did to my oldest cause this one is just a baby and doesn't understand. She thinks it's funny when I tell her to stop cause it's yucky, ignoring the spitting and putting her into time out doesn't work. I am really at my wits end as to what to do please help

Thanks ladies. I guess I am just going to have to keep trying to ignore her. :(

I agree...walk away. Turn your back on her. Before I turn away, I would screw up my face very exaggerated and say "I don't like that very much." and THEN turn away. The 16 month old may not understand your WORDS...but CAN read your face and your body language just fine.

When your 16 month old does it totally blank her do not put her into time out. Turn your back on her if you can (making sure she is safe) make no comment at all just ignore it totally because she is looking for a reaction from you good or bad. She will soon stop if she is getting ignored as this is the worst thing to do to a child. Go overboard on the praise when she does something good to balance things out. Hopefully she will get the idea that if she wants mums attention being good is more rewarding than being ignored. It will take a couple of days but try it.
