Spoon Feeding

My son is 4 months old. The doctor said that we can start feeding him cereal from a spoon. We have tried, and he just cries, and spits it back out. We thought maybe he didn't like the taste so we added some baby food bananas to it, and he still doesn't seem to want it. Could you please give me some advice on how to get him to want to eat from a spoon.

I started all my children early because they were big babies and needed more than milk to sustain them. My advice is let him hold a spoon and his natural reaction will be to put it in his mouth to explore. Seize your chance then. If he is still upset about it then wait a while and try again. With my daughter I smeared baby rice on the end of the teat so that she could get used to the texture in her mouth of the food and then I introduced the spoon.

That seems early - I would wait a bit (perhaps 5-6 months)
Best advice I can give you - don't compare your child to others...every babe is different and will do things at their own pace.

He's just not used to the spoon yet, dont give up! I started my daughter on solids at 3 months cause she was so big and it took her awhile to get used to the spoon. You can start a baby on solids anywhere from 4-6 months, depending on how big they are and how much they need to eat.

I think maybe your baby is not ready for solid foods yet! He's only 4 months old I would probably wait until he is at least 5 months & give it a try again. They age to start a baby on solids now is 6 months. I started my little one at 5 months on cereal and he loved it from day one!! Just keep giving your baby milk & he will be just fine!!
