Does anyone know if a school can tell a step parent they are not aloud to go to parent teacher confrences? I am a stepmom and my husbands baby mama told him that. And I say baby mama bc they were never married, never dated, never even friends. She was a one night stand. So sorry of that offends anybody. But the BM told my husband that the school board forbids me to be present and talk to my step sons teachers about concerns I may have with his class work and etc. is this true? Or do you think she doesn't want me there? I help with my step sons homework when he's at mine and my husbands house so I don't see why I couldn't be present to hear how he's doing in class and what we all three could do to help him do better in school.

Our school has a list of people with parental responsibility for a child which includes step parents, carers, and sometimes grandparents. They can attend parent events and receive copies of reports / letters. Suggest your husband phones the school and speaks to the head teacher.

I will look into that. We are actually currently going through another custody hearing with the BM. So my husband may just have to tell her we need to cancel this meeting till the agreement is finalized. Thank you

I believe I read in our school handbook that they want a copy of the custody agreement and it should be clearly spelled out in there what the parents have agreed to, that way the teachers and school know. If it's not clear then I would say yes the BM probably has the right to tell the school that they should not be discussing it with you.
