Stepmother accepted mother's day school craft!

My daughter is 6 and her school helped them to make a book and little gift jar for their moms for mothers day,and my daughter gave it to her step mom. I understand why my daughter gave it to her, but I can't understand why her step mom accepted it!! In my mind she should have expressed her gratitude but reinforced that while they have a special relationship, I am her mom. We have done this when my daughter had tried to give something to my partner when it was something special that should be given to daddy. How do I talk about this to step mom?

Why can't you let your child give to the people that she wants to give to? I understand if it were a special event for a particular gender parent that you would want to be included, but it's a gift... and should be able to be given to whoever the giver WANTS to give it to.
