Hi all,
My 9 month old daughter start expressing some strange behavior...she would lie on the ground on her belly and start twitching her legs while she stare in the ground and in the same time she is feeling the texture of the carpet. We went immediately in E.R. and they transferred us in children hospital where she was observed by 10 doctors and they preformed EEG - everything is normal. They say it is self soothing behavior and she will outgrow it. Further, I noticed that she does it whenever she is sleepy and since this "seizure" started she is sleeping more.
Does anyone has similar experience?

Does she do this with any kind of carpet or only on certain kinds of textures of carpet?

Thank you Amy,
I will definitely ask her doctor for second opinion just in case. The only thing that gives me some hope is that she is doing that voluntarily and whenever I call or touch her she stops...sometimes she ends with laugh but sometimes with cry :(

What you described makes me think this PROBABLY ISN'T IT, especially if she has been observed at a children's hospital and had an EEG. (MOST doctors are trained well enough that if your child is having ANY TYPE of seizures they can tell through an EEG even if the child does not have a seizure while having the EEG.) However, my son has had multiple forms of epilepsy/seizures since he was 4 months old and experience taught me early on that NOT ALL doctors are trained as well as they should. We searched the net for MONTHS on our own before finding his initial type of seizure and his neurologist still said he wasn't having any seizures so we had to take him to St. Louis Children's Hosp. (8 HOURS FROM WHERE WE LIVE!) to finally get a diagnosis and we were right, it was seizures and the specific type we thought.

So, just in case you are in the same boat, but I REPEAT, BEFORE YOU PANIC, IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THE SAME THING AND MOST LIKELY A CHILDREN'S HOSP. WOULD HAVE CAUGHT IT (OR ANY TYPE OF SEIZURE) IF IT WERE...BUT, LOOK UP "INFANTILE SPASMS" ON YOUTUBE/THE NET AND READ THE DESCRIPS. AND WATCH A FEW VIDEOS OF BABIES WITH CONFIRMED CASES (AS THEY VARY TO SOME DEGREE FROM CHILD TO CHILD BUT ARE STILL USUALLY SIMILAR ENOUGH TO TELL IT'S THE SAME THING). IT TAKES A VERY SKILLED DOCTOR TO SEE THEM ON AN EEG EVEN IF THEY HAVE THE SPASMS WHILE THE EEG IS BEING PERFORMED (MY SON HAD COUNTLESS SPASMS WHILE HAVING HIS EEG BUT THEY STILL DIDN'T CATCH THEM) AND THEREFORE ARE OFTEN TIMES OVERLOOKED, ESPECIALLY BY LESS SKILLED PHYSICIANS.

Good luck and if you find out that your child does have some form of epilepsy feel free to contact me with any questions or just for support. Most likely my son has had whatever type of seizure it may be and we have dealt with the whole spectrum of fears, hurdles, difficulties, questions, etc. and I am very grateful for the online support I've had over the years b/c it can make for very hard times but friendly support makes it much easier. :-)
