I have one child 18 mons, would it be a bad idea to get something educational so young or is it a good investment??

Well, it depends what you are talking about. There are many age appropriate toys that provide educational experiences for babies/toddlers, but just remember that at this age they are learning mostly through their 5 senses and are developing their motor skills. So if you are talking getting those educational type videos to teach your child to read, I would give a very strong and resounding NO - they are a waste of money, and can also detract from the experiences your child SHOULD be experiencing at this age. If we are talking things like blocks, age appropriate books, sand and water play tables, all of those things are considered educational for a child this age.
