Sudden anxiety in 8 yo girl

Two weeks ago the school sent out a flyer for "father/daughter" "mother/son" dance. They call it a family dance, but what the kids were given said father/daughter ect. She has not seen her dad in over 3 years. Her grand father would normally take her but he is working out of state and has only seen her about 5 times in the past year. She has not wanted to go to school. Got sick to her stomach before going to a skating party and could not go in, and yesterday she would not see a movie, and did not want a friend to come over. With each instance she says her stomach hurts, but seems fine any other time. Have spoken with teacher and have taken her to pediatrician. She seems to think is situation anxiety and due to missing grandpa, which in turn has her thinking about her dad. Anyone else have issues like this. I am so worried about her. Very out of character for her.

That was a bit insensitive of the school. Not all families are the same and they should have worded it better.
In regards to your daughter, I can see why she is upset. She doesn't want to be the odd one out as well. Are you going to be going with her instead? You could even let her know that she doesn't have to go if she doesn't want to.
Have you sat down with her and discussed her feelings? Instead of taking her to different people, maybe she just needs to talk to you and have you support her.

Sorry if you have done this, you just haven't mentioned it.
