I had my little girl's height done today at clinic she is 27mnths, she last had her height measured at her 2 year check and was on the second percentile at 79cm. She has followed this percentile band from about 2 months until today when she got her height took and was 87.5cm, that placed her on the 50th percentile, that means in 2 and a half months she has crossed 3 percentile bands from the 2nd to the 50th why would this be. i didnt have my red book with me at clinic so never picked up on it there and have had trouble notifying her health visitor of my worry. Have you had similar happen? What was the cause?

It is just a growth spurt why the worry?? I would think it is a good thing she is growing.

Growth spurt. My daughter is now 6, and she has always been anywhere between the 3rd percentile and 40th percentile, and it varies depending on her growth pattern. When she goes through a sudden growth spurt, her position on the charts changes. It really is nothing to be concerned about.

the shooting up or down in the first few months is normal and is the body adjusting but this is only normal in the months after birth then it settles and follows a growth curve relevant to the centile it has settled has anyone elses 2yr old actually gone up 3 centile bands in 2 and a half months?

when they turn 2 they dont take height laying down it is took with them stood against the measurer and the bit moved down to rest on there head and heigh took this is quite accurate for measuring and is how we are measured she has been measured like this since 19mnths when they felt she was good at standing for it

My son was under the 10th percentile when he was born, he has shot up to being just over the 75th, and had been there since maybe he was a month or two old. I used to get told all the time that he was too big and I fed him too much, he was growing too quickly. He was a happy healthy baby, he's now a tall skinny 3 yr old.

I sometimes think that all the information you get given about how your child should be growing etc can be abit overwhelming. I don't think every child will follow the guidelines exactly as they are supposed to.

My 18 month old jumped dramatically in height. 1) I actually think she had a growth spurt right before she went. 2). As someone else stated it's hard to get a measurement on kids when they're laying down because they tend to scrunch up and not stretch out, which was the same reason my doctor had. He said he wasn't concerned and yours shouldn't either, you could always schedule another appointment in 6 months to ensure she's not continuing on that growth curve.

im 5,3 and her dad is 5,8, just got worried as i had read that it shouldnt veer up or down too dramatically even during a growth spurt and shouldnt cross over more than one centile band without being looked into just wish my hv was easyer to get hold of

My daughter just had her 2 yr check up. She had only grown 3cm in 6 months and dropped from just over 75 percentile to just over 50th. I know she must be due for a big growth spurt so I'm not too worried.

Your daughter probably just had a huge growth spurt. Kids do that.

My son seems to shoot up all of a sudden and then won't grow for ages then shoot up again. I measured him in August and then in September and he had grown 3cm in a few weeks.

Then she probably just went through a growth spurt. I wouldn't worry about her getting taller. If she dropped percentiles that would be a problem. How tall are you and your husband? She may just be catching up with her genetically programmed height curve.

it is possible that whoever measured her made a mistake. 2 year olds are wiggly and it can be hard to get an accurate measurement.
