My 22 month daughter seems to be allergic to sunscreen, after applying her face gets all red and blotchy and her back seems to have red dots all over. I have tried several brands and the same thing happens, could it possibly be heat rash?

Have you tried the avon sunscreen/bug repellant? That is the only one my youngest can use so far! Which is weird being a MK person :)

I know the post is old not sure if anyone still listening. But try kareng.beautycounter.com they have eliminated over 1500 toxic ingredients from the skincare line. Ingredients linked to serious illnesses including cancer. Sunscreen is also free of over 1500 toxic ingredients. you can message me if you have questions.

Have you tried Neutrogena's Baby Face? They actually have one that is for baby-sensitive skin. It's PABA-free and oil-free and chemical free. My children have a sensitive facial skin, and that's the only one they can use. There's also a mild lotion with sunscreen by Cetaphil.

There are so many toxic and harmful chemicals in sunscreen. These are ingrediants to look out for and are in most sunscreens---octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), dioxybenzone, oxybenzone (benzophenone-3), DMDM hydantoin, triethanolamine. There are more but those are ones especially to beware of. Check out the California Baby brand. Here are some good websites to look at too. www.mercola.com and www.cosmeticdatabase.com.

My daughter gets a reaction sometimes. It's almost as if her skin is having a problem breathing. Hers comes up as bumpy little red pin pricks. She would get it on her face and chest and sometimes her upper arms. It didn't bother her at all and it only lasted till she had a shower. My doctor actually said she had a rash in reaction to the sun and said I should use sunscreen. I had a conniption fit and told her I had used sun screen and that's when the rash appeared. But she didn't believe me. Anyway, she still sometimes gets a bumpy pin prick rash on her cheeks but not as often as she used to. I figure it's worth it when compared to sunburn.

Quoting Tammie:

are you using a spray sunscreen or a lotion? I know my son reactions to the aerosol spray sunscreens. He gets red and blotchy and he says it burns. It could be a heat rash, but does it only happen when you put sunscreen on her?

I tried both coppertone waterbabies lotion and now banana boat kids spray both times it happened, i only ever noticed the rash after applying sunscreen . I tried to put a patch of sunscreen under her arm to see if we get a reaction. I feel bad doing this but really want to find out if it sunscreen.

Try a non-chemical sunscreen. California Baby makes one that is all-natural. She could be reacting to one of the ingredients; most commercial sunscreens all have the same active ingredients in them.
