ok so we are thinking about making the big switch from crib to toddler bed for our 2 year old.. the only thing is can I still use the same bed time routine or will it just be mean? right now she has her book before bed then we put her in her crib with her fav blanket and a drink of milk and she crys a bit some night but she goes to sleep with her door shut... but would it be mean to just put her in her bed with her drink and blanket and close the door and let her cry? I just dont know ....

update: last night was horrible... she cried for hours and wanted her crib .... so we ended up putting her in that for the night and she was out in minutes ,..... we have kept the toddler bed up so she can get use to it and hopefully make the switch soon

I just recently made the switch from crib to bed with my little girl. She is 21 months now. She did amazing. Some nights are harder then others, but for the most part, she is really good. I kept the same bedtime system (bath, story, bottle) and then once she is laying in bed, I say "ok, mommy loves you, sweet dreams", then I close the door. I know she doesn't sleep right away because she knows she can get up and play, but she eventually plays herself out and climbs back into bed and sleeps. If you keep to the same routine, I'm sure your daughter will do just fine. Hope that helps

we were thinking about just converting her crib to a toddler bed by taking the rail down that goes up and down and putting a kid rail there so she can't roll out .. what would be better?

My son is too scared to get out of his bed at night, it's dark haha. If he gets out at daytime we put him straight back in. I also have a rail on his toddler bed so he can't roll out.

If she is calming herself and putting herself to sleep i don't see her having a problem being out of her crib, but if she does get out just keep putting her back in .It might take a day or two but I don't think you will have to worry about that. She sounds like you have done a great job on bed times with her.

thank you for your help.. we already have the bed since we have a older girl (who never really used it ) ... but the youngest has been so great with sleeping on her own and calming down on her own im just worried that let her out of the crib which keeps her in giving her no wheres to go is why shes so easy at night time

No you need to keep the same routine. That is how she knows what to expect and she can be prepared for it.I actually had my son pick out his toddler bed and we made such a big deal out of the bed he couldn't wait for his(big boy bed)! He knows he can get in and out when he wants but he is so proud to have a big bed that he will go to his room in the afternoons and lie down on his bed for a nap by himself. If you keep it to the same every night she won't get so anxious and it will make it easier on you putting her to bed at night. Good luck.
