I've just had my 20 week scan and was told that my baby has uni lateral talipes. That was it I wasn't given any information on it or even told what talpies is,can anyone help me?
The sonographer wasn't very helpful at all and it seemed like she couldn't get m out of the room fast enough. She also told me that she couldn't see the skin covering the top of the babys spine properly or the cord conecting to the babys belly button. Again she didn't explain what this ment or if I would need another scan She said she wasn't worried about anything and thats the most I could get out of her, I am really worried about my baby. Could someone please give me some advice or support,I don't know what to do. :(

Unilateral talipes means that they think your baby has clubfoot, on one foot only (both feet is bilateral talipes). If you look at this site www.clubfoot.co.za, it will explain the condition and the most successful method of treatment. The Ponseti method for clubfoot treatment has over 95% success rate when done by a doctor who is well trained in the method. Mostly clubfoot is not related to any other condition, but in a few cases it can be associated with a syndrome, and more tests are needed. Your sonographer should really have given you more information and some counselling to explain what she thinks she saw. Can you go for a second opinion with someone else? There is a great yahoo group based in the US called nosurgery4clubfoot, which you can join for a lot more information and support from parents.

If you type "Talipes" into google it will come up with club feet. I know it can be corrected after birth with a cast.
