I don't know if you believe in spanking him, but that's always an option if done calmly (with out losing your temper) and in the privacy of your own home. With some children it works surprisingly well to stop tantrums. Of course it doesn't work with every child, but it worth a few tries.

Ignore him. If you don't give him the attention he is after he will become bored because it's not having the desired effect. It doesn't matter if it's "good" or "bad" attention, if you are talking to him or acknowledging him then he's got your attention.
