READ BEFORE JUDGING ;
I am 14, and have been thinking about getting a tattoo. I understand it is permanent for life. I have also been thinking positively with it. I am very mature & responsible. I'm really trying to find where I can get mine with parental consent, since it is legal. I just want a little writing on my side saying "Fall Down Seven, Stand Up Eight," Or even "For Those I Love, I Will Sacrifice." Something meaningful that I won't regret when I'm older. (: I just need help finding a place where I can get it? I live in PA.

First of all Sammi, if you want a tattoo so bad, do your own research on reputable tattoo parlors that would be so stupid to tattoo a 14 year old. Find your own place.

Secondly, it doesn't matter your reasoning for wanting it....you are to young.

Thirdly, you will NEED parental consent. You have not answered whether your parents approve yet...which is a red flag that you have not told mommmy or daddy.

Fourth, this is a mothers site. You are not a mom. You are barely a teenager asking other mothers where to get a tattoo.

Fifth, this is an open forum. You brought up a VERY debatable issue. You cannot CANNOT dictate how people respond, so stop flagging everyones posts that you don't like. If a post contains THUMPS, feel free to flag it.

Sammi, i understand how you feel.. i know you wont agree with me but i will give you a good advice.I am a tattoo artist and i got my tats done at a young age..not 14 but 16..At that time i also thought i wouldnt regret it..but believe me i do!And i know alot of people that got tats when they were young and they regret it! I would NEVER tattoo a 14year old..you might think you are mature but you arent yet..if you want to prove that you are mature then simply DONT DO IT!Its also illegal here where i live.Wait another four years and if you still want it then go ahead..but dont rush to do something that will be on your body for the rest of your life and that you will regret...or end up having to cover up with a motive that you might not even like.

Sammi,

You are too young to get a tatt. Sorry hon, but you are. Even if you find a state in the US that will allow it for under 16, you have to find a reputable shop that will DO it with parental consent.

Most shops I know of, in 5 different states, will not do a tatt on an under 18 individual. They may do one on a 16 YO, but the parent would have to be present and have signed a waiver.

You don't want judgement, you want opinions. Well, the overwhelming opinion is that you are too young. Yes, you've considered it. Consider it for a few more years. Will "fall down seven stand up eight" even have the same meaning for you after 3 or 4 years?

Ok, here's the law in PA: Under Title 18 of Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, "A person commits an offense if he tattoos any person under the age of 18 years without the parent or guardian of such person giving consent for the tattooing of the person and being present at the time of the tattooing of the person.
A person who commits an offense under this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree for the first offense. A person who commits a second or subsequent offense under this section within one year of the preceding offense commits a misdemeanor of the second degree."

You claim to be a mature individual, and yet you take offense at simple opinions, and the pointing out of the many flaws in your idea...and honey, you came to a website full of MOMS!!! You think that we don't take parenting seriously enough that when an alleged minor (yourself) asks for advice as you have above ANY mother wouldn't probably give you the same answer that we would our own kids?

BTW. My kids are getting tatts. When they turn 18, if they want. From a reputable shop that I can guarantee risk of infection is minimal. With a certified Artist that I can trust. Just like myself and my husband did.

It was probably my post she flagged because I threw her attitude back at her :P

I'm just thinking, maybe her parents did approve with "Yes dear, you can have your tattoo, but you need to find a place that will do it for you" knowing full well she wouldn't be able to , but it takes the pressure off them and the reaction that would probably come with saying "No". You know, one of those parenting tactics ;)

oh and if you do find an artist that would do it legal(cant imagine where on earth its legal to tattoo a 14yr old) then just remember that the artist is a money sucker!
I even talk to my "younger" clients before they get something done on the wrist,i let them know that its a place where you can see it most of the time and for a first tat i would suggest placing it on another body part... Some have actualy been very happy that i informed them first. And another thing..for your first tattoo... dont get your hands or neck done.. i ONLY tattoo people on the hands or neck if they already have several tattoos. But as i already said just be PATIENT and wait another couple of years. And if its about being cool or something to stand out... just dye your hair PINK!

PS i have thought about what will happen if my son comes and asks for a tat at a young age.. he will most probably say mommy and daddy are covered in tattoos so why may i not.. I will have a good chat with him what its all about and when he is old enough18+ and realy wants one i will do it.Because i dont want him to go to some idiot that doesnt do a good job! There are lots of those artists out there that just thinj of money and cant be bothered if the tat doesnt come out right. My first tats were done by an idiot like that.So if your parents would let you have one with 16 go to a good artist.

I thought about getting a tattoo young as well (considering all my friends were doing it and I felt like i just wanted to fit in) but this was when i was 16 instead of 14, 14 is EXTREMELY young to get a tattoo period. I got my first tattoo this year and I'm 22 years old, and I regret it because it didn't turn out at all how i wanted it to. now i'm stuck with this huge thigh tattoo having to save up even more money for someone to fix it. My advice is even though you already have your mind set on what you want, just wait a few more years, your mind could change and if say in 2-4 more years you still want that same saying in the same spot, then get it done :)

Oh wow... she's flagging these posts? lol

Is suggesting she get 'I need to grow up' tattooed across her forehead a violation of THUMPS? If not... there it is. If so... disregard the post.

Sammi.... I suggest you either do your own research like Little Miss has suggested.... or drop the idea of a tattoo for the next 4 years and just enjoy being a young teenager and learning about life and the world around you.... w/out permanent body markings that you may regret in a few years.

Well... this is a mom's site, so maybe your mother can come and post instead of you.... I agree with Jodi. If THEY approve... they can find a place.

I'd go with the thigh, if u decide to have children one on your stomach will probably stretch out and not look so nice after.

I have to say as a parent I wouldn't let my child get a tattoo, however you are not my child. I suggest making sure that its put somewhere it can be covered by clothing incase you decide to get a job in a conservative work place.

There was definitely one that specifically specified no-one under 14 (can't recall which one). I find it totally absurd too, but there you go!

No reputable tattoo artist/shop would or should tattoo a 14 year old. That is fucking absurd. I know some of the laws said "under the age of 18 with parental consent" but in my own experience, with tattoos and piercing parlors, no one will touch a minor under 16. Of course that is only in a handful of states that I have been in.

No, I didn't miss the point. Of course you were trying to discourage her. I was just pointing out that some states do allow a child this age to get a tattoo, that's all. Not many, but it is available legally in some states. Whether a shop would do it or not is an entirely different matter. You're right, even if the law says they can, they may not.

WHY would a parent consent to a 14 year old getting a tattoo?

Just... no.

Usually the age for parental consent is about 16 and up. I am referring to being 14. Sure some shady shops will.....you can get anything you want no a days. Would you want to get a tattoo by such a shady shop that will tattoo a 14 year old? And you missed the point Jodi, I was attempting to discourage her.

Actually, Little Miss, I looked it up and apparently there are some states who do as long as the guardian is present. But I just can't imagine the parents of a 14 year old agreeing to it.

Those are stupid sayings.

No where in the US will tattoo a minor that young even with parental consent.

No. Just no. You are too young.

To be honest, where I live it is illegal anyway, even WITH parental consent, unless you are over 18, as it should be.

Do your parents ACTUALLY approve of this?
