Ok.
First, I must confess, I am a father. And I'm sure that any site for father's Rareare focusing on sports, hunting, fishing and beer. None of which interests me. So, with that said...

My daughter's 3rd grade teacher at Belgreen High School in Franklin County Alabama named Mrs. Guidry, is denying the children their snacks at snack time as a disciplinary action. The whole class is punished because of the few that are talking. But this is not my complaint. Nor is it the many notes/letters written to the teacher that went unanswered. It's also not about the fact that the only response this whole year (in regards to asking why MsG stopped printing out the weekly Homework Sheet and when it would be sent) was written by -drum roll- my daughter. And it said "no more typing". Really?

What it is about, is how she doesn't allow the kids to eat their snacks. They have lunch at 10:30. And they are growing children that need to eat. This has been going on throughout the year and after many unanswered letters/notes voicing my concern and dissaprovement of such measures (make them write spelling words ## Times each, or math, or anything beneficial) I am fed up.

So, It happened again yesterday. And they were told no snack tomorrow (which was today) Friday or all next week. Needless to say, I got mad and called the school.

Luckily the Principal answered and I informed her if it happened again I would call the Board of Education and if they didn't do something about it I will call every local news station and a lawyer. I was told it would be taken care of.

Needless to say, today I had to call the board of education, voice my complaints and inform them exactly what I mad the principal aware of. And to top it off, today my daughter said that her teacher said "ive had complaints from parents, but I'll run my classroom my way. Really? My tax dollars paid for that room and her salary. Anyhow, once I was off the phone I contacted (via email) government officials in my state, as well as the federal people, like Hillary Clinton.

Tomorrow, if she is not allowed snack I told her to get her snack pack and go to the office and have them call me. I intend to fight this all the way. It's not about money, it's about kids being treated right.

Denying a child food is Child Abuse.

Thank you for letting me vent.

Any suggestions?

I

I do know how hungry kids get. We need to also make the schools aware that children who are in junior high and high school need more portions than that of a young grade school kid. My son complains that he gets small portions that are fit for a young child not him. He is 17 and needs more caloric intake to make it through the day.

I had success!!!

Teachers at my daughter's school are no longer able to withhold snacks
:)

I don't know if it easy call to board of education or if it was one of the many politicians I emailed. Either way, I am ecstatic.

I urge all of you to write/call congress (local and federal) about mandating a law to prevent teachers from withholding snacks to be a violation of children's rights. I have succeeded in my daughter school not allowing. But there are schools all a cross America that may have a teacher who will still do so.

I don't intend on stopping this "movement" Untill it is made a federal law. So please, remember, Denying a child food is Child Abuse.

Thank you all for your replies, I will try to answer them as soon as I can. Been very busy.

Michael.

I can understand the being upset about the snack thing if they are supposed to have it in the afternoon but what do the homework things have to do with the snack issue?
