My daughter came home from school and said that her teacher made her cry. She said that he was playing a game, and made her classroom pick colors, yellow or green. Yellow was treated better than green. The green had to sit on a red line and face the wall, while yellow was given candy and did what they pleased. She and a few others began to cry. So he then let them get up and told them not to go home and tell this to their parents because it was just a game, and he was only trying to show them what black people felt lile back in the day. I was jaw dropped, I wrote the teacher and he explained everything the same except the telling your parents part. I am getting ready to go up against 3 of the staff members in regard to this activity, I would like any and all comments to help me build a strong case. It was wrong and age inappropriate. The teacher doesn't seem to think so!

Have you not seen the blue eyes brown eyes experiment conducted in the 60s by Jane Elliott? It sounds like he was trying to reproduce that in his classroom. Personally, I don't think it is age appropriate, but it sounds like he was trying to conduct something similar at a lower level. No-one on the internet can comment on why he felt the need for this lesson. Maybe there has been some racial discrimination happening in the classroom and he felt this would be a way for children to understand. I do agree it isn't appropriate for a 6 year old. But who knows what level of racism has been happening where you live.

I have spoken to the principal and teacher..The principal is waiting to see if it's age appropriate and the music teacher still thinks it's appropriate. . What's wrong with these people? ?
