Teacher Problem?

My daughter is very smart and in first grade. I worked with her over the summer and she loved doing the work. She is now in first grade with the same teacher she had last year. But, this year they are being graded. My daughter gets periodic Fs on tests, although I know she can do the work and understand it because she does the homework, computer work and classwork just fine. I am thinking I have a problem with the teacher (we have already had a conference). I dont feel the teacher is teaching the students, how to be a student. For example, the first week of school my daughter got Fs in classwork, because her name was not on the paper. The teacher has since corrected it. But, shouldn't a teacher especially of first grade, be helping and reminding the children to put their names on the paper. Just today I found out she got an F on a science test, while talking to her I realized she didnt understand that she can answer "solid" liquid" "gas" more than once on the test. Shouldn't the teacher have explained that?

She is a very nice lady, but my child is suffering. What should I do?

No I don't think she is doing her job, she is supposed to be teaching and encouraging children, not putting them down.

The teacher is in the wrong grade! K-1 should be about learning the foundations of school, routine, procedure. And the teacher needs to practice these procedures ALL the time! Trust me....I teach high school and STILL remidning these kids of the procedures! But I fear that this teacher's antics are going to start to make your daughter afraid of school, afriad to upset the teacher, and afraid to bring home poor grades. There is a real fear of developing anxety and school phobia. But please do speak to the teacher and principal to find out what really is going on. Best of luck to you!

I'm very surprised with an 'F' in the first grade. Where I live they aren't allowed to give that type of letter grading until middle school.

Thanks, Nikki!

We are on the verge of speaking with the principal, because we dont know what else to do. We are afraid, it might make things worse on our daughter.

It's nice to hear someone else say, she sounds harsh. She is really nice and everyone seems to really like her. But...is she doing her job?

But, again...thanks.

I would have a meeting with the teacher and the principle to discuss your concerns, she sounds really harsh.
