Teeething and Colds

My son always contracts a cold when he's teething and he's doubly miserable. I've read that experts have said there is no correlation between the two but this is my second child and teething is always followed by a cold.Does this happen with anyone else?

Sounds like a carbon copy, here! Our 2 girls have, like clockwork, gotten colds / cold symptoms whenever they were teething! Keep Children's Benadryl, Tylenol, and Motrin very closeby (all generic brands from CVS/Walgreen's, so that U don't spend a WHOLE lot of $$$).

My local pharmacist told me that Children's Benadryl is THE best for basic cold symptoms that come w/ teething (especially helps w/ the dry tickle in the throat that makes them cough @ night). The Motrin (or generic brand of Motrin) has an anti-inflammatory element, so that helps w/ the teething. If your son is especially picky about cleaning out his ears, the Motrin / Ibuprofen will help w/ that. We'd give our girls the Motrin / Ibuprofen AND the cheapie version of Children's Benadryl at night...along w/ Orajel Nighttime Relief, and some basic nose drops (Little Noses is fine, even just plain saline drops for kids is fine, too).

Hope this helps :)

Is it actually a cold, or just a runny nose. My daughter gets a runny nose every time she cuts a new tooth but it is not a cold. My doctor told me to try childrens benedryl and it clears up the runny nose right away. hope this helps

Never had that problem. Does he put his hands in his mouth? Mine would put anything they could find in their mouth when they were teething. I had to wash their hands constantly.

from what i've gathered, teething doesn't directly cause illness such as colds or a fever but because the body is busy with the teething, it makes it harder for them to fight off viruses.
