My dd is 13 years old and really wants a smart phone. She is very responsible and will look after it and help pay for it.Should i let her get one? She does not have a phone. Also can anyone recommend a cheap phone/plan that you can get in Australia? I am happy for her to have internet on it.

My son paid for his own and also pays for his own credit. We are in Australia. My son has a Telstra plan $50 a month - free texts, I can't remember how much of everything else, but we have wireless at home. He pays the $50 himself, he has a job. Personally, at 13, I don't beleive she needs a smart phone unless she can afford it herself. And if she is taking it to school and allowed on it during school hours (and in many schools they are allowed), she will be on FB 25/7, and the amount of cyberbullying that goes on is just horrid. I am a high school teacher, and personally, I think parents should stop their Year 7/8/9 students from having smart phones. But that's just my opinion based on the number of times I have "so and so said this about me on FB last night and now I feel threatened and I want a restraint of harassment, blah, blah, blah.......". Kids should not have access to FB. That is all.
