My son is smoking again. It seems every summer he steps back into that world. My problem is that before I could go to the parents and things were clamped down. Now the parents don't care that that his friends are smoking, How does a parent hold their ground when all the other parents are caving? How do you get through that thick skull when he consistently watches documentaries on how pot has no harmful effects. I have grounded him, I even changed schools, not that he won't find influence there, but I just can't get through to him. He is such a smart, happy go lucky kid and when he's in sports he is determined and steadforth with his grades and then summer comes and the next thing I know he's bored and back with his stupid friends. We don't have the money to get him into summer sports. I wake up thinking about this, I go to bed thinking about this...I'm tired.

Do you live in a place where it's easy for him to get to his friends? Does he have a car? Does he have a phone? Can he be grounded? Can he be punished? Does he HAVE to have access to the people who are furnishing his pot or is he buying his own? If he is, where is he getting the money? If he's old enough to have a job, make him get one. Give him something to focus on besides getting high. You mention not having enough money to get him into sports. There are other things. Get him involved in a charity of some sort. Maybe a big brother organization or a homeless shelter. Maybe working with teens from broken homes. Maybe with a church? Something to let him see that there are worse things than having parents who care about his grades and his life. Good luck. I've raised a few kids, and working on raising a teenaged granddaughter. Teenagers are the hardest job in the world, and the most rewarding when it's all over. May God be with you.
