Without asking and risking a nasty blow up, how do you find out if your teen daughter is taking drugs and that is what causing the emotional roller coaster and weird sleep patterns?

You can give a simple drug test from the local drug store. I suspect that weird sleep patterns might be caused by either Aderall or Vivance. These are ADD drugs that are prescribed to a lot of kids now. They sell them for $5-10 a pill. They make you stay awake for a long time and then you crash and sleep for a long time. You will also notice a behaviour change: excitability when high and very irritable when down.

Yikes! That's a rough one. Is she doing ok in school and otherwise? I did a lot of "experimenting" back in the day and my husband is straighter than a ruler and our 2 kids are still babies but we talk about how we will handle it when/if the time comes that we have to ask ourselves this question. I would tell her that she can talk to be about anything and that I just want her to be safe. My husband would probably freak out. I'd reassure her I love her and will no matter what she does. Hopefully this will all pass... :-(

you schedule her for a physical, have the drug test be a component of the physical. Most physicians are happy to provide that service

I would check at local drug store and see if they have drug tests. You could also take her to the dr. for a "check up" and talk to nurse or dr. privately tell them you want drug screen.
