The Screaming (but happy?) Baby

I have 9month old twins and one of them is very... vocal. He started babbling very early (maybe 6 months?) and then just kept going. He was always a loud crier when he was upset but he has taken all of this to another level. He seems to like to hear himself scream and I don't mean yelling, but full-on Mariah Carey/Minnie Riperton shrieks. He also likes to shriek with no warning.

He usually likes to do this when most of the household is asleep - late at night or really early in the morning. I have always been sensitive to loud sounds and I find this habit completely offensive. I know that's horrible to say because he doesn't understand, but I can hardly think or focus when he's screaming like that. I find myself involuntarily reacting and trying desperately to get him to be quiet, but he just keeps screaming.

Do you have a loud baby? How do you keep him/her quiet when necessary? HELP!

My baby screeches...a lot. Like on the top of his lungs and then some (at that point, he goes silent because he was going too high). I never really tried stopping it; I enjoy knowing that he's happy. Maybe you could try, teaching 'Shhh' or something. I really don't know.
