My 3.5 year old twins are uncontrollable when it comes to time out! They just scream, kick and hit. Any advice?

Have you ever tried a different kind of time out? Like the glitter bottle that you shake up and they sit and watch it until all the glitter settles. It is suppose to be very calming.

I really like the glitter time out idea...something that refocuses their attention.
You must be going NUTS with two!
Separate quiet areas is also a great idea. Like Dove said, its not necessarily about 'punishment', but about 'this is how we need to behave'
Hang in there. As a parent of an adult and an almost adult, I can guarantee that this DOES end!

I definitely would look up the glitter time out. No it is not rewarding them for bad behavior. It is removing the from the situation, and having them focus their attention elsewhere. The children should be separated when in any kind of time out. If they get out, you put the right back in. They get out again, they go right back in. No words. No consoling.

Do they have separate rooms or do they share? If they have separate rooms... try sending them to their rooms to calm down instead of an actual 'time out'. if they share... maybe one can go to the room and the other can do some quiet activity in the living room. You want to try and steer away from 'punishing for doing the wrong thing' and more towards 'this is how you act and why'. It's hard... I know. 2-4 is really the most challenging age range in my opinion.

Yeah... if what you are doing isn't working it's time to try something else. I do like the glitter bottle idea (they sit in time out til the glitter settles), but knowing my son's temper he likely would have chucked it against the wall. How are they kicking and hitting in time out? They shouldn't be close enough to anyone to be able to do that. What are they going in time out for (or is it the kicking and hitting that GOT them there)?

Hang in there... 3 is a BRUTAL age! It does end... eventually.
