My 5month old baby always needs to be rocked, bounce, and fed to fall asleep. It's becoming to be a big hassle for me because I want him to find a way to make himself sleep. It would save me a lot of time. And most days he will just stay in my arms almost half the night because when I place him in his crib he wakes back up. Any Ideas on how to get this started?

My baby is 4 months old and I need to lay down and snuggle her/feed her to sleep. She needs me to be there for her. Babies aren't born with the capability to be on their own. They need their parents because its their basic survival instincts. They need closeness to stay alive, thats how it is in the wild, its different for modern humans but try telling years of evolution that.. I say, be there for him and do what he needs regularly and eventually he will adapt and grow into an independent human. Why force independence? It will only teach him your not there for him. I rocked both my girls to sleep as long as they needed it. At one, my eldest started not needing it, my 4 month old still does, I co-sleep so the majority of the night shes in my arms. It will teach her that she can depend on me, and in turn, help her achieve her own independence. She'll be more secure in testing her independence, because if she makes a mistake, I'll be there. Its not just putting your baby to sleep, its bonding on a primal level. Give him time, he will learn. Then you'll miss this special time you have with him.

That is a food for thought, I never saw it that way. I guess I'm just at the stage that I'm overwhelmed with motherhood. But I guess it happens but we stick to it cause we love our children. Thank you for your words of encouragement.
