What are some tips for parents that don't necessarily have the same thoughts on how children should be raised/taught/disciplined within the home. Being a stay at home mom I am the one who deals with the children the majority of the time. I want my children to understand that my husband and I are united in our parenting but my husband thinks I am a "softy" and I think he can be too harsh. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Also, both kids respect and listen to my husband. Both do not do that for me, and since I am the one home with them I NEED them to respect me without yelling at them, which is why they listen to my husband.

I agree with Michelle. Communication is the key, but so is compromise. Just because you are the stay at home mom and you are with them more does not mean he cannot be a parent also. In fact, it is a GOOD thing he wants to be so involved. Do you really want to be the only one making all the decisions? You want your kids to see you are BOTH parents so they respect and listen to mom and dad. Not just mom.

Communication!!!! Sit down and discuss what you are going to do. Write a list of likely things that the kids will do (or hopefully not) and then both agree on what type of punishment it should receive.
Maybe even just have a guide saying severe things will get XXXX, little things will get YYYY.
