I am a mom of three, 19yr old girl, 14 yr old boy and 10 yr old girl...husbands family has always put me down saying i should be helping out working...it recently has gotten worse because now my kids are older... the 19 yr old may not need me much anymore. but I still feel its important to be home for my 14 yr old and my 10 yr old. am I right? could really use some encouragment.

No matter what it's not your husbands family's business and they shouldn't be putting you down.

If there is a real financial issue you should talk to your husband about that. If that is the case you could get a part-time job where you only work a few hours.

Either way though it's between you and your husband not his family.

Has he talked to them? I would ask him to respectfully tell them to not bother you about this or put you down about it. It has nothing to do with them so they need to keep it to themselves.

If they bring it up with you tell them you're doing what you feel best and then change the subject or repeat what you just said if they try to bring it up more. It helps if you say pretty much the same thing every time it's brought up. I feel I'm doing what's best, and that's it. Don't alter your response. If you do this eventually they'll get that this is just an off-topic thing, a non-issue for you.

If you feel you're doing the right thing then don't let other people make you guilty, they aren't you. It's really easy to look at someone else and pick out all the things they 'should' be doing when you're not the one doing it. Don't worry about what they think and ignore them if they bring it up.

Good luck!

This is between you and your husband. Not your in laws. Talk with your husband about this, and see where he is at with you staying at home. You both need to be on the same page.

unless your about to be homeless due to your not working thats just envy on their part staying home for your kids and family is harder work than having a job that you go home from, and although there is no pay check it is probably the most important job any one can have!
