Toddler and Infant sharing a bedroom

[deleted account] ( 8 moms have responded )

I am due in March and I have a son that will be 17 months old at the time. We have a two bedroom place and the only space we have for the baby is in the toddler's room. I was hoping for some advice from anyone who's had a toddler and an infant in the same room together. My son sleeps through the night really well now and he's not usually disturbed by noises but I'm sure he's going to get woken up by the baby. What was your experience with this? Is there anything I can do to make it easier on my toddler?

We just had a bassinet in our room until our youngest slept through the night which was also nice because I breast fed and it was nice having my daughter so close. We also picked out new bedding for my oldest and had her help us arrange things so that she felt like she had some control over what was going on. My girls are now 7 and 4 and still share a room and we really haven't had any major problems.

my boys share a room also. the younger one slept with us in a bassinet until he was sleeping through the night and then we transitioned him to the shared bedroom. We would put the baby to bed first so that he was asleep when we put the toddler to bed as he always went down easier. If the baby woke up in the middle of the night, we had the packnplay set up in the living room to put him down in so he wouldn't disturb the older one. worked out well for us.

my boys are 15 months apart. my little guy was in our room for 5 months. as bad as i wanted to wait until he could sleep through the night...i finally had to put him in the room with his brother b/c my son would wake up any time my husband sneezed or snored! lol. so i put him in the room with his brother. that was about 2 months ago. he is still not sleeping through the night (im hoping he will start soon...mommy needs sleep!!!) but it doesnt affect my older boy at all. they go to bed at the same time at night, fall asleep within 10 minutes, and the little guy gets up between 2-4 times a night. then they wake up at the same time (usually one wakes up and then talks to the other til he gest up). but it has been great for us! good luck!!!

my children shared a room, and actually they still do. Cameron was just over 2 when i had my youngest son, who is now 1 1/2. they've done pretty well sharing a bedroom. i did not put them together though until Cody, my youngest, started sleeping through the night, so that it did not disturb cameron. he slept in my bedroom overnight, in the bassinette, but during nap time, he slept in his bedroom. now they are closer than ever. cody wants to / tries to sleep in the big bed with his brother, it's adorable. i feel that them sharing a room for so long has made them better brothers.

With the two boys we had the youngest in the room with us until he was old enough to sleep on his own. We dont have my sons older brother all of the time but they share a room when we do have him.

To be honest...I would keep the baby in my room until he/she could sleep through the night. My children are 20 months apart and there is NOTHING worse than a toddler who has not slept.

for the first few months i would get a bassinet and have baby in room with you.
