Toddler bed or Twin bed?

My daughter is 3, and still sleeping in a crib- we just found out we are expecting our 2nd child- and have a situation where the children will need to share a room for a while. So, I was thinking a trundle twin bed- but then looking at beds- I like some of the toddler beds because of the rails they come with- does anyone have experience with trundle beds?

Standard size beds come with rails too. They can be removed later when the children are older. I've personally never bothered with toddler beds. I think they are a waste of money when you can buy a bed that will last them years.

I agree with Jodi on this one. I put my daughter at age 2 into a twin bed and bought a rail to put under the mattress to hold it down and keep her from falling out of bed. I do really think that by age 2 a child should be out of a crib and into a bed or some sort be it a toddler or a twin. At this age a child is more apt to climb out of cribs and then get hurt in the process. At age 3 she should have long since been in a regular bed. I used a toddler bed with my son at the age of 18 months. He was too big for a crib and we did not have room for a twin bed in the room he had to share with his sister for a time. We lived in a very small trailer at that point and she had a larger bed than a twin making it impossible to fit anything bigger for him in the room. Besides that, the toddler bed came from my parents who used it for the kids when they were younger so we were not out of the expense.
