My son turns one next Saturday. He only has his front two top and front two bottom teeth and I have been trying to get him to eat regular food and when he goes to swallow, he usually just makes himself sick. What are some things I could do to get him to start eating? I'm worried he won't get enough nutrients when I switch him off of formula in the next month or so. Any suggestions would be great!!

What are you trying to feed him? You would be surprised what babies can learn to gum, but you want to start with soft foods. Your child is ready if he uses a pincer grasp (finger and thumb) and can get the food in his mouth himself. Bananas are great in small pieces so he can pick them up. There are also several things on the market you can buy such as the "puffs" that dissolve in their mouths. Gagging is normal when they are first learning and some babies will even vomit when they gag. Don't give up! Make sure you don't give him anything he hard he could choke on, otherwise keep going. This is a new skill and takes practice.
