My 2 year old daughter was complaining of belly pains yesterday morning so i took her to our local pedi doctor. He felt her belly then (unsure on why he did this) he layed her in knee chest position with both knees at her chest and stuck one of his fingers in her bottom, then sent us out of the office for a couple of X-rays. When we got back to his office he diagnosed her with severe constipation. He ordered a FLEETS child ENEMA before bed last night and another ENEMA this morning before her followup appointment this morning at 11:30! My daughter had never had an ENEMA before this, I put her on the bed with a towel underneath her, gently put her on her belly with her knees underneath her and her bottom slightly raised by another towel. I gently spread her cheeks and applied some lubricating jelly, and inserted the FLEET! She screamed and cried saying it hurt, and itched and she had to go poop the entire time i was squeezing the bottle BUT she let me do it! I gently removed the FLEET from her bottom and held her bottom cheeks closed for 15 minutes so the medicine could soften things up and work. 5 minutes before I let go of her bottom cheeks I rolled her over on her back and rubbed her belly! after i let go of her bottom i put a open diaper underneath her (we are not yet potty training) and waited. The water came back out fairly quickly, but there was no poop! we waited in this position for 60 mins (we told stories to pass the time) and still no poop! I stayed hopeful this morning thinking maybe the poop would be loosened up, but was only able to get about half the medication in this time, she saw what was coming this time and fought me! She wouldnt sit still, she was screaming, crying, promiseing to poop on her own. I sat her down and explained to her the only reason she was getting medicine up the butt was because she needed to poop and could not go without the medicine. I finally got the FLEET in, but she did so much fanny wiggling that the tube was constantly sliding in and out her bottom so most of the medication came right back out! I didnt want to hurt her so i took the FLEET out of her bottom, held her bottom cheeks closed put a open diaper underneath her and started the timer for 15 mins. Again after 60 mins no poop! I told my disappointing results to the pedi doc at the follow up appoitment today, he said if she dosent have a decent sized BM by tomorrow morning when she gets up she will need to go to the emergency room for a clean out! I dont disagree if she needs a hospital I will take her! it is 10:39pm and still no poop, im already planing on taking her to the ER tomorrow. I just wanted to prepare myself for what might happen tomorrow, so my questions are:

Will the hospital do an ENEMA?
What happens if ENEMA still dosent work?
Whats the next step?
SO SORRY FOR THE LONG TEXT! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP AND ADVICE! IM JUST TRYING TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR WHAT THE HOSPITAL WILL DO TO CLEAN HER OUT! THANKS SO MUCH :)

There will be another enema - a proper one with bisacodyl in it. They should x-ray her as well to see if there's any problem with the colon.
(Your description was, I guess, "painful but necessary" - reminds me too well of my distressing enema experiences as a child).

Dont worry too much. If she gets an enema at the hospital they might give her something to sleep. And they will be able to clean her out. They know how to do it and she will be in good hands,so dont worry!
