I am from California and I now live in Clinton Township, mi. My toddler is 3 years old and is desperate for friends and I know no one. He needs to learn how to properly interact with others, right now he is so desperate the second he sees a child he knows which are all older, he runs and holds their hands and hugs then and doesn't want to let them go bc he knows they won't stay and play with them. It literally breaks my heart that I am failing him in this way and don't want his feelings to keep getting hurt. Can someone please point me in the right direction. I need a group that meets often purely for their similar aged children to play. And maybe I may make friends in the process.

Thank you for any help.

Try http://www.meetup.com. They have lots of groups listed. You could also ask at your local churches if there are any playgroups. Depending on your finances, you could consider daycare a couple of days a week - at this age, I place my daughter in daycare two days a week to support her social development (and to help me be able to get some work done, because I was working from home).

Our daycare centres here all have to be registered, and the workers have to all be police checked and properly trained, so I didn't have too many issues, just chose the one that I thought would work with me best. I don't know if there are sites for daycares - but if you ever decide to look into it, don't make an appointment, just turn up and ask if you could have a look around because you are looking at possible daycares for your child.

Thank you so much for your advice Jodi! I will check out that site... and as far as daycare, I am terrified of trusting others with him when I feel that he communicates, but not as well as I would like before I trust that he can tell me if something happens. How did you find a daycare that you could trust? Are there sites for that?
