Toddler Problems with shoving too much food in his mouth???

Good morning Mommies! My 2 1/2 year old still loves to shove so much food in his mouth that he makes himself gag and sometimes puke! It's so frustrating and it freaks me out! I break all of his food into tiny pieces but he just shoves it all in there! I tell him one piece at a time and I demonstrate chewing for him...any other suggestions???

I just waited it out, and would only put a few pieces on my son's plate at a time. I'd remind him to bite the bigger pieces, and coach him on chewing when he stuffs a whole banana in there.

He's 2.5, and still does it sometimes if he's hungry, but not as much anymore. It's to the point where he doesn't scare me that he'll choke, which is a relief. I think it's just a phase, and some kids learn to eat like a normal person sooner than others.

You might try leaving the food in bigger pieces and having him bite a piece off and then keep your hand over the food and remind him to chew it all and swallow before you let him have more. A little kid was trying to be helpful several months ago and peeled a banana and gave the whole thing to my son! I nearly freaked out, but just watched for a second and he actually handled it much better than if there had been lots of small pieces on a plate. So that was lucky I found that out. Give it a try.
