Can it be done?
We've just had confirmation that our 17 mth old has severe aspiration on all thickness of fluid. He is threatening to aspirate food on 1 in every 4 swallows but manages to pull it back each time.
He is a perfect little boy so this is devastating. Hes bright, happy, meeting all milestones and a goof feeder. However, Its been a long 17 mths with a lot of sickness & brinchiolitis. He's never had pneumonia.
Has anyone experienced this and managed to avoid tube feeding? How? Im currently withdrawing as much fluid as possible and replacing with jelly and fruit purees and im replacing milk with water. But I know the reality is I can't stop him aspirating.
Am i fighting a losing battle. Should i just resign to tubes. Im in a bit of shock and probably denial!
Thanks for any helpful advice.
